BLURB

Being dead can be a great way to find yourself…

Struggling to pay her bills in New York, theater student Evaine Michaels sees an opportunity to make money by taking part in an unsanctioned clinical trial for a new drug. But things don’t go as planned. She wakes up in a derelict hospital, chained to a bed with no memory of who she is or how she got there. Then a band of pale-skinned men, led by the gorgeous Luca, bursts in and rescues her. Evaine is instantly attracted to Luca, but he’s so hell-bent on stopping the experiments, he has no time for the feelings she’s awakening within him.

Safely back at Haven House, Evaine is introduced to The Family and learns that the drug trials have made her a Deader, a reanimated Undead. Evaine and Luca find themselves getting close, until Evaine remembers not only who she is, but that she’s engaged. And her fiancé, Tristan, is probably still looking for her. Torn between her first love and her new heart’s desire, Evaine has some hard choices to make.

But when a rogue faction of Deaders, called Feeders, attempt to kidnap her, Luca suspects Evaine might be the key to the experiments, and everyone must band together to keep Evaine off the cutting table…

The trailer for it is on my home page if you want to see it 🙂

21 Day Countdown to Halloween – Best Zombie Movies!

Okay! There have been a TON of zombie movies over the years. Some good, some bad, some terrible! I can say that there has only ever been one zombie movie that I totally loved. Zombieland.

Zombieland was hilarious and fun and made me want twinkies for the first time in thirty years. The characters, actors, plot and graphics were all great. The cameo of Bill Murray was great. I heard a rumor that they might make another one. I hope they fo and that when they do it’s just as great as the first because I really loved it.

I really liked 28 days. I thought that was a great zombie movie too. It was at the forefront of zombie movies. It’s gritty, dirty, and pretty much how I see it going when zombies show up! The way is was shot was uniquely and the violence and dehumanizing of people is pretty much how I see society disintegrating when the time comes. It was scary how real it was.

I also really liked Shawn of the Dead. It was quite hilarious. And I think one of the stupidest, silliest, cult classic zombie movies of all times. I watched it once by myself and laughed so hard that I turned around and showed it to my husband– he wasn’t as impressed.

I am Legend. A movie that deserves an honorable mention. It was decent. Not great, like a bunch of other zombie movies, but it was worth watching.

Warm Bodies…I know people loved this one, but I was not too much of a fan.  I went with it, thought it was funny, until…the end. I know, I know, love conquers all. But let’s be real. Give me a reason. A good scientific reason why he all of a sudden is human again. I didn’t buy it. I just didn’t. I bought everything up until the part where he turned pink.  But I loved his side kick! He was hilarious!

Land of the Dead was pretty good. It helped give me an idea for a book. It has Simon Baker in it, which is cool and in the end the zombies evolve, which was a great twist.

Resident Evil. What a franchise! I think I have seen the first one a dozen times! I love Alice and hope that when the zombie apocalypse finally happens, I am Alice. I will probably not be. I’ll probably be more like Jessie Eisenberg from Zombieland.

Lastly, a great, fun and totally awesome Zombie movie is Corpse Bride. LOVE it! Tim Burton does it again with that one. From the crazy out of proportion parents, who epitomize the reigning society, to the eyeball losing, worm infested corpse bride, it sure was fun. I loved the twist in the end as well. I thought that was great. And the collection of voices for the movie, including, Tracy Ullman ( Who I love) Albert Finney and Christopher Lee, are a real treat. We don’t get to hear from them enough! So, watch Corpse Bride! Because it is an awesome zombie movie and fun for the whole family.

21 Days of Halloween Countdown Fiction Friday!

So what would good would a Halloween countdown be without some great books you can sink your teeth into for Halloween? Over the next 3 Fridays I’ll be putting together some great books from some great author friends of mine for your reading enjoyment! Take a look at these fun stories containing, Vampires, Werewolves & Zombies!

Reign of the Vampires

ReignoftheVampires

Reign of the Vampires was one of the first books I wrote.  Set in a world ruled by Vampires the book is told from the Vampire’s point of view. In this dystopian future there are three classes of Vampires.

Vampires – Pure Blooded born vampires, these are the ruling class of the world.

Vampyr – These lower class vampires have either been bitten originally, or are half breeds. Half Vampire half human. Though still considered members of the Vampire Society, they are not looked on as Pure and Royal.

Vamps – These are the lowest class of vampires. They were humans until a decade before when a virus was unleashed turning 99% of the human population into vamps. Vamps do not drink blood, they can go into sunlight and they are used as the workforce for the Vampire Society.

Ten years after the outbreak of the V2000 virus turns normal humans into a mutated Vampire sub-species called vamps, or kills them, humans are the world’s hottest commodity.  Enclaves of scavenging humans are hunted for slaves, for breeding, and for blood. And now, The Society Rules.

Just months after Vampire Lord Danika Checkov, Coven Lord of Chicago, and owner of the largest synthetic blood company in the world, is attacked and almost killed by her vamp assistant, she finds herself reluctantly having to purchase a new slave for protection. What she doesn’t count on is discovering Mason at the Slave Auction. The largest, and most gorgeous human male she has ever seen. Instantly attracted to Mason, he is the first male to actually make her go weak in the knees. But Mason is only for protection, not for pleasure.

Mason is a human slave, or so the Vampires think. Captured, while raiding a nearby town for supplies, Mason’s biggest fear is someone find out what he really is. Planning his escape from the Slave Auction, the last thing he expected to see, was a ravishing redheaded Vampire Lord who makes his blood literally boil. And when he’s purchased for her protection, he finds that his commitment to her may go further than just as a body guard.

Danika suspects her former assistant wasn’t working alone, and now with the Three Kings breathing down her neck, to find a mate, her life is in more danger than even she could imagine. But all she can think about it sinking her teeth into Mason’s willing neck.

When the opportunity to escape arises, Mason must choose between the woman he craves, and the freedom he wants. Because if anyone figures out what Mason really is, those who’ve been hunting him, for the last five hundred years, will find him as well.

As Mason struggles to save Danika from the traitors in her ranks, his very presence in her life, may bring destruction down upon her head.

1. We Are Dead Board Game – If you love games, and I do, you’ll love this game. You get to be the zombies and you play against other players to eat the shoppers. There are five hero cards to choose from and if you want to work against your opponents you can save the shoppers from being eaten by them. But as soon as the horde card is played, everyone you bit becomes a zombie and now you have to play against the board and team up with other players to win. The game is so cool. And it has 2 sides. A shopping mall side and a carnival at night side.

First Resident Evil. What a franchise! I think I have seen the first one a dozen times! I love Alice and hope that when the zombie apocalypse finally happens, I am Alice. I will probably not be, but I hope so!

Also there’s the Walking Dead TV show. Though it has gotten a little off the beaten path the last couple of seasons, I still think it is a dang good show and does a great job of really showcasing what life would be like in a zombie apocalypse. If you haven’t seen it, check it out this Halloween!

A Dozen Franchises I am most Thankful For!

It’s Geek Out Friday!

There are lots of things I’m thankful for. My kids, my husband, my writing. Good food, good friends, family. All those normal things that people are usually thankful for. But as I sit and think about the things that have influenced my life; Who I am, what I love, how I think, I realize that there are some things in this world that I will ever be thankful for. Some franchises so awesome, that my life would be a bit sadder without them.

So here are my top twelve franchises that I wouldn’t be the person I am, without. And these are not in order really because it would be WAY too hard to do that!

1. Star Wars – Old Star Wars, not new. Love Star Wars. Grew up on Star Wars. R2D2 backpack? Check! Ewok backpack? Check! Imperial March as Ringtone? Check! I love Star Wars and the great lessons it teaches about good versus evil. Han Solo is the sexiest rogue out there. Princess Leia is the epitome of a kick butt female. I wanted a Millennium Falcon to fly. Chewy as my partner and a lightsaber to fight the Sith with. Except Darth Vader,

2. Marvel Comics – Hulk is my favorite. Nightcrawler, Gammbit, Wolverine, Loki, Ironman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ghost Rider. I love them. Love them all. I am Groot. I just think comic books as a whole are the most awesome thing invented. My daughter has dyslexia and learned to read on Marvel comic books and the Marvel Encyclopedia. I would rather have marvel comic books than ever eat cake again. And that’s saying a lot because I seriously like cake!

3. Star Trek – Engage! I have loved Star Trek since Shatner sat in the chair. Though I must admit Picard was my favorite. Though Chris Pine is sure giving that statement a run. I’ve always found space exploration fascinating. To see other worlds and other people and creatures. Ever since I was a girl and used to go to the Air and Space museum in Washington D.C. I have loved Astronomy. To see, basically a flying city, go through the stars has always amazed me.

4. Lord of the Rings – I am part elf, so I love what Tolkien did with his rendition of us. Haha. I think J.R.R. Tolkien has one of the most beautiful minds in the 20th Century. And I think Peter Jackson did a fantastic job with the LOTR series. I will not comment on the Hobbit movies because I have a few gripes, but the book was also a great, fun read.

5. Dungeons and Dragons – Not the movies, the game. I’ve played D&D since I was like 14. It was my introduction to the world of fantasy after Star Wars. I went to college for theater so there was something so natural to me to create my own character and head out on an adventure with my friends. Too much fun. I still have my D&D books and refer to them when writing.

6. Underworld – This is one of my absolute favorite Vampire/Werewolf franchises to date. I could watch those movies over and over. I know they didn’t do well and that they weren’t masterpieces of acting, but for what was created, I think that Underworld and Underworld 2 are some of the best out there. They are true to how I think the world would really be if Vampires and Werewolves live in it.

7. Harry Potter – Who doesn’t love Harry Potter? Again, like Tolkien, I think J.K. Rowling is one of the most creative minds of our century. I have an entire bar in my house dedicated to my Potions, Harry Potter Posters, and Halloween items. Harry Potter has been a fixture in our house since the third book was released and as a newlywed my husband and I picked it up and decided to read it to see what the whole thing was about. We then devoured books one and two and moved on from there.

8. Dr. Who – David Tennant! Uhm…sorry about that! I love Dr. Who. Especially David Tennant. I learned to love Matt Smith as well, but in a crazy little brother way. The stories were so fresh and new and original. The whole concept is just a lot of fun to watch. It was the first show I’d ever seen where they killed off the lead characters almost every season. So different.

9. Supernatural – Sam…cough, cough. I know, Dean is awesomesauce, and I love him too, but I am a Sammy fan. I also really love Crowley. The writing is amazing. You never get the same thing twice. It’s constantly fresh and new and just when I think they can’t do anything else, they do something new again. Love it. They are like watching a D&D campaign in our world today. Wait…didn’t they do an episode of that?

10. Alice in Wonderland – Such iconic characters that they’ve been written and rewritten dozens and dozens of times. Movies upon movies have been made and tens of thousands of people have contemplated the meaning behind the whole thing. For me? I love the idea of a girl crawling into a hole and finding an incredible new world where nonsense and frolic are the name of the game. It has inspired me in more ways than I can count. From going to Comic Con as Steampunk Alice in Wonderland with my kids, to having Mad Hatter Tea parties and writing love stories. Alice has inspired me!

11. World of Warcraft – RPG’s! I’ve played RPG video games almost as long as I’ve played D&D! When Warcrack…I mean, Warcraft came out my brother, whom I played a lot of D&D with, got me a membership for my birthday. HOLY COW! I’ve never been so addicted to something in my life! I was a crazy mama gamer who spent all night playing and all day taking care of her family. It only took a couple years to break the habit. Now, playing is a luxury I only buy at Christmas where I try to take a couple week off with my kids and we play together. Best Online Game Ever!

12. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (The TV Series)- Don’t laugh! Buffy, rocks! Angel, rocks! Bad Willow, Rocks! I love Buffy. I have seen the entire series at least 2-3 times and it never gets old. Buffy was so ahead of it’s time and Joss Whedon was a master of that world of vampires and demons and witches and werewolves and everything in between. It was one of the best introductions to Paranormal Romance for me and has helped inspire me as well.

So in conclusion, on this Thanksgiving Day! I am thankful to all those creative minds out there who inspire me and bring me joy and entertainment! To all of you I give a Huge hug and say, Thanx!

What do you need for the Zombie Apocalypse?

It’s Geek out Friday!

Okay, so we all know about the zombie apocalypse! You know, the one that people have been preparing for since The Walking Dead first aired? The one that incited people to rush out and build metal bunkers and stock up on guns and ammo and food supplies for when the undead came a calling! But what about the Vampire Apocalypse? Sound silly? Well then you haven’t heard of new release with Lyrical Press, Reign of the Vampires – The Society Book One.

I was approached by www.ManCrates.com and asked if I would write an article about what people might need in a Zombie Apocalypse and so I went to their site and saw the super cool stuff they already had for the man crates for that Apocalypse and I thought, what about when Vampires take over?

In my book Reign of the Vampires, a virus is unleashed by the Vampires meant to turn them into Daywalkers (Vampires that can walk in sunlight) but instead it either kills off, or mutates 90% of the human race into a subspecies of Vampires. The remaining humans are then captured as slaves, so they live in enclaves together.

In the first chapter of Reign of the Vampires, a group of humans go into a town to look for supplies. But what are they looking for? What would you look for if you had to go out and scrounge for supplies? What the heck would you even need if Vampires ruled the world? Well, I’m about to tell you.

The top Ten Things you would need in your ManCrate, if the Vampires take over all of it!

10. Guns, Stakes, Machetes, Ammo, Crossbows and Arrows – Weapons! Who knows if holy water and crosses will work on these Vampires. They won’t work on the ones in my books, so to be on the safe side, get weapons. Lots of weapons, tons of weapons. Stash them on your body, in every room, under floor boards, in the ceiling! And especially the bathroom! You know how it goes in horror movies, and if the Vampire Apocalypse is the same as a horror movie, you will get stuck in a windowless bathroom unable to get out. Guns are a pretty good way to get you out alive.

9. Entertainment – Books, music, magazines, games, cards, anything to be able to use your time effectively. However, remember those are things that need to be done quietly and that will last you a long while.

8. A stash of First Aid Supplies and Medicine- First aid is going to be important. Let’s face it, you are going to run into Vampires, or they are going to run into you. And it isn’t going to be for a casual conversation. It’s gonna get bloody. So keep those first aid supplies stocked high! Along with the First Aid Supplies you also need meds. Cold meds, pain med, stomach meds, you name it. Humans are susceptible to all kinds of things, so medication is going to be needed in great supply. Especially after all those bite wounds from Vampires.

7. Toothbrushes and Hairbrushes – Yes! We need hygiene. No matter how gross things get, tooth brushes and hairbrushes are a MUST! Who wants nasty hair and breath when everything goes to crap? It’s the little things people.

6. RV – There is nothing you are going to need more than a working vehicle. An RV is perfect for it! Not only does it move, but it’s a house on wheels and you can pack it up high in the mountains where it would take Vampires a while to get to you and they would be deterred by sunlight.

5. Gas – You know that vehicle? It would suck if it stopped running about halfway to your destination because you run out of gas. Plus gas can be used as fuel for starting a fire, or for burning vampires. Gas is good.

4. Solar Flashlights and Panels – Solar powered is best. Batteries are something that run out, but solar lasts forever 🙂 You can use solar panels to run just about anything.

3. A Leatherman – What? You don’t know what a Leatherman is? It’s a Swiss Army Knife on steroids! It is a multi-tool that has just about anything you could ever need from a small saw to a can opener to a pair of scissors. Leathermans rock. Okay, get a dozen Leathermans just to be safe! Seriously! You need them!

2. Food and Water – Preferably no perishable food! Staples, things that keep. Rice, beans, dried food, flour, powder milk, noodles, crackers, twinkies. Okay, skip the twinkies, they’re terrible! But you need food and tons of it. You also need stuff you can pack into your RV and keep it stocked. And for water, get at least 10 fifty gallon drums. And a couple extra empty drums for collecting rain water. Believe me, rain water works great for flushing toilets with there is no more water.

1. The Number One thing you need in a Vampire Apocalypse is UV Lights! Everywhere! In your light fixtures. In your headlights. In your sensor operated flood lights. UV people! It saves lives!

So there it is! My list of things to go in a Man Crate from www.ManCrates.com with the Vampire Apocalypse hits! Now it’s true, most of this stuff wouldn’t fit, but a bunch of it would. What do you think of the list? What would you add to it the list if there were a Vampire Apocalypse?

Halloween on TV All Year Long!

Halloween is my favorite holiday, incase my logo didn’t give you a hint. So I can’t tell you how excited I am that through television I can have Halloween all year round now. There are some new shows that have come out this year and in the last few years, that help bring that Halloween spirit weekly. Well, except for summer hiatus!  So here are the one I love!

Number One – Supernatural!
Supernatural with Dean and Sam is Halloween all year round. Angels, Demons, vampires, maybe werewolves, grim reaper, ghosts, Norse Gods, You name it! It’s had some hilarious episodes, some gross episodes, some sexy episodes, and some sad episodes. The writing on the show is great! If you are looking for a show where you can see: depressed teddy bears, people eat each other, someone come back from the dead, a show make fun of it’s self, and all around never know what is coming next, this is your show!  And luckily for all us Netflix people, Season Seven just arrived on Instant! Wahoo!

Number Two – Sleepy Hollow
A new show with the sexiest Icabod Crane I could never have imagined! Seriously! I never would have thought of him as sexy from the Disney movie! But Tom Mison does it! Again this is one of those shows where you get something new and different every week. The mythology behind the Headless Horseman is great and all the episodes so far have been biblically spooky fun!

Number Three – The Walking Dead
Yes, it is can be gross, but more than that, it is freaky! I can handle zombies, what I can’t handle is people! The people being terrible to other people. Those are what gets me. Though in a zombie apocalypse, you have to do what you can to survive. However, I still think they should go raid a farm and stay somewhere in the middle of nowhere, anything is better than a prison. But the show has killed off many of the more annoying characters, and a couple of my favorites are still around. Team Darrell!

Number Four – Dracula
Shudder, swoon, sigh – Johnathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula himself! What could be better? And it sure looks like there’s gonna be a bunch of steampunk in there, which makes me even more happy! And in case you missed my post about Vampire movies, Dracula is my favorite story. Just watching the show makes me want to stop everything and write my Dracula book!

Number Five – This one was a one season thing – Hemlock Grove
Netflix has been quite prolific in coming out with new amazing content, and Hemlock Grove is just one of them. There is only one season, and apparently where the book ends is where the season ends, but I have high hopes that there will be more seasons! This show freaked me out like none other. Famke Jensen is so creepy that it makes you feel like it is the real her she hides from the world. The werewolf change…let’s just say I never thought of showing it that way, and it was very stomach churning. The Frankenstein sister is a mystery I still want solved, and I cannot tell you more, or I will ruin it! Watch it. Freak out! Tell me about it!

Number Six – Teen Wolf
So I know what you’re thinking! Teen Wolf? Really? And when I was first told about it I thought, Teen Wolf? Really? But having watched it for a season and a half, it isn’t that bad. There are several characters I really like. And the Villains are great! The toenail issues of one Alpha female this last season had me wanting for her to get a pedicure in a BAD WAY! And the wonder twin alpha that can merge together make my skin crawl, but there are a lot of great characters, fun twists and teen angst. So as far as YA goes, the show is pretty good.

Number Seven – Vampire Diaries
I read the series, thought it was okay. Show the show coming out and thought, okay I’ll give it a shot. I loved the first season, liked the second season, by this last season, I was a bit disappointed, but that was purely do to the fact that I’m Team Stefan all the way! And if there was a Team Elijah or a Team Claus, I would have chosen those too. Just sayin’! I like the diversity of the show. I like how it has deviated from the books in many ways. And the fact that they now have the spin off of The Originals, that’s great too. But my favorite was bad Stefan. I liked him and it sounds like this season we will get to see that again, even though it isn’t really Stefan.

Number Eight – Buffy The Vampire Slayer
So actually this should be number one because it is the predecessor for all of these shows. Now in reruns everywhere, Buffy remains one of my favorite shows of all time! Buffy and Angel FOREVER!!! Yes I was heartbroken when Angel left the show. And Riley was not my friend for a long time, but then Seth Green showed up as Oz and I was okay again. And though I LOVED Spike, I did not want him with Buffy. And then he went crazy and off the deep end, and so did the show! Not a fan of Dawn coming on the show, but loved Anya and wished she and Xander could have made it work. Bad Willow was the best decision the show made, and One More Time With Feeling is on my playlist and I listen to the music because I love it. You get everything from split personality gods to robots, to people being fileted and everyone losing their memories and thinking they are someone else. That episode was sooooo funny! So if you haven’t seen Buffy, you totally should!

All in all, there are a lot of great shows out there to keep the Halloween Fun going year round! If I’ve missed one, feel free to tell me!

Welcome To Halloween! Zombie Movies

Okay! There have been a TON of zombie movies over the years. Some good, some bad, some terrible! I cannot say that I have ever seen a zombie movie I loved. But I have seen a few that I liked.

I really liked 28 days. I thought that was a great zombie movie. It was at the forefront of zombie movies. It’s gritty, dirty, and pretty much how I see it going when zombies show up!

I also really liked Shawn of the Dead. It was quite hilarious. And I think one of the stupidest, silliest, cult classic zombie movies of all times.

I am Legend. A movie that deserves an honorable mention. It was decent. Not great. It was like a bunch of other zombie movies, but it was worth watching.

It help give me an idea for a book. It has Simon Baker in it, which is cool and in the end the zombies evolve, which was a great twist.

I AM UPDATING THIS POST BECAUSE I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT TWO MOVIES!!!

First Resident Evil. What a franchise! I think I have seen the first one a dozen times! I love Alice and hope that when the zombie apocalypse finally happens, I am Alice. I will probably not be, but I hope so!

Also, a great, fun and totally awesome Zombie movie is Corpse Bride.

Also there’s the Walking Dead TV show. Though it has gotten a little off the beaten path the last couple of seasons, I still think it is a dang good show and does a great job of really showcasing what life would be like in a zombie apocalypse. If you haven’t seen it, check it out this Halloween!
