Top Ten Gifts for Book Lovers

Top Ten List for Book Lovers

ChristmasGeekery

I’ve done a lot of geeky posts lately for presents and this one I am being rather selfish on. This one is for people like me. Well, technically they are all for people like me, but this one is for writers and book lovers. What do you get the elusive bibliophile? Well, here are a few suggestions.

10. Book Wallets and Purses – There is nothing cooler than accessories made from books. Now I’ll be honest, it breaks my heart a little to know that precious pages and words were ripped out in the creation of these accesories, but I take a deep breath and I’m okay with it. Mostly. But I still find these totally cool!

9. Book Pillows – These are super cool. They are pillows. You can literally lay your head on Alice in Wonderland or Harry Potter or Pride and Prejudice. It doesn’t get much better than that my geeky friends!

8. Book Journal – There is nothing as precious to me as my Star Wars journals that I use to jot down notes and ideas in for books. My Darth Vader one is completely full so I had to start using my Yoda one. Just about every writer I know has a journal of some kind that they carry with them to take notes in. And these are beautiful ones at that.

7. Bookmarks – There are all kinds of bookmarks out there, but none quite as creative and whimsical as these. Inspired by your favorite stories these bookmarks are a great gift. There are so many to choose from I don’t think I could ever decide on just one.

6. Writing Scarf and Gloves – These are a lot of fun. The best and easiest way to wear your favorite parts of your favorite books in both a scarf and gloves. From Romeo and Juliet to Pride and Prejudice these are beautiful.

5. Bookstore Candle – I think every book lover does what I do. They walk into a bookstore, stop, inhale and smile. It’s like going to heaven in a bookstore. My son, who is 8, even said he loves the smell and wishes he could bottle it! Well, according to this company, you can. I sure hope it’s true because it would be heaven to me!

4. Book Plates – What better way to show your love of books than with an entire setting of book plates? I would love to get these, but with the way my kids break things I’ll have to wait a few more years.

3. Mac Book Cover & Ipad Cover – These are a lot of fun as well as functional. And they may even keep your items from getting stolen. By people who don’t want amazing old books that is.

2. Book Jewelry – Now I am sure there are people out there who don’t like jewelry, but I certainly don’t know any, and if they love jewelry and books you can’t go wrong with any of these items I found! They are simply amazing!

1. Gift Card – I know it sounds cliche and ridiculous, but the best thing you can give a book lover is a gift card to a bookstore. Barnes and Noble and Amazon are the best, but you can go local as well. Local used bookstores and independent bookstores are the way to go.

Okay so I looked EVERYWHERE for any ugly book sweater but couldn’t find one. I did however find an ugly Book T-shirt. So that’s what you get today. Sorry! If you find one, PLEASE send me the link!

So are you a bibliophile? What kind of gift would you want?

21 Days of Halloween Countdown Fiction Friday!

So what would good would a Halloween countdown be without some great books you can sink your teeth into for Halloween? Over the next 3 Fridays I’ll be putting together some great books from some great author friends of mine for your reading enjoyment! Take a look at these fun stories containing, Vampires, Werewolves & Zombies!

Reign of the Vampires

ReignoftheVampires

Reign of the Vampires was one of the first books I wrote.  Set in a world ruled by Vampires the book is told from the Vampire’s point of view. In this dystopian future there are three classes of Vampires.

Vampires – Pure Blooded born vampires, these are the ruling class of the world.

Vampyr – These lower class vampires have either been bitten originally, or are half breeds. Half Vampire half human. Though still considered members of the Vampire Society, they are not looked on as Pure and Royal.

Vamps – These are the lowest class of vampires. They were humans until a decade before when a virus was unleashed turning 99% of the human population into vamps. Vamps do not drink blood, they can go into sunlight and they are used as the workforce for the Vampire Society.

Ten years after the outbreak of the V2000 virus turns normal humans into a mutated Vampire sub-species called vamps, or kills them, humans are the world’s hottest commodity.  Enclaves of scavenging humans are hunted for slaves, for breeding, and for blood. And now, The Society Rules.

Just months after Vampire Lord Danika Checkov, Coven Lord of Chicago, and owner of the largest synthetic blood company in the world, is attacked and almost killed by her vamp assistant, she finds herself reluctantly having to purchase a new slave for protection. What she doesn’t count on is discovering Mason at the Slave Auction. The largest, and most gorgeous human male she has ever seen. Instantly attracted to Mason, he is the first male to actually make her go weak in the knees. But Mason is only for protection, not for pleasure.

Mason is a human slave, or so the Vampires think. Captured, while raiding a nearby town for supplies, Mason’s biggest fear is someone find out what he really is. Planning his escape from the Slave Auction, the last thing he expected to see, was a ravishing redheaded Vampire Lord who makes his blood literally boil. And when he’s purchased for her protection, he finds that his commitment to her may go further than just as a body guard.

Danika suspects her former assistant wasn’t working alone, and now with the Three Kings breathing down her neck, to find a mate, her life is in more danger than even she could imagine. But all she can think about it sinking her teeth into Mason’s willing neck.

When the opportunity to escape arises, Mason must choose between the woman he craves, and the freedom he wants. Because if anyone figures out what Mason really is, those who’ve been hunting him, for the last five hundred years, will find him as well.

As Mason struggles to save Danika from the traitors in her ranks, his very presence in her life, may bring destruction down upon her head.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00037]

Deep in the underbelly of Montreal, an ancient evil stirs at the time of the Black Moon. Rumors dark as night seep into the public, spoken in hushed tones, as though those who speak are afraid to make the horrors they whisper of come alive.

Azura, a student of witchcraft, wakes up to find her room empty. On her way to class, she finds out that her roommate has been murdered and that the Supernatural Intelligence Agency has been called in. With them comes Rook, the lead investigator, whom Azura finds herself helplessly drawn to. But while Azura is human, Rook is a werewolf, and their romance is as forbidden as it is strong.

As the darkness draws nigh on the city, it falls on Rook and Azura to protect it—and themselves.

10. Old Book Bag – This is a cool old book bag that is perfect for anyone who loves books. Why not put your books, in your book bag?

5. Book Folding – I think this art is truly amazing. I have no idea how they do it and though I have a huge aversion to dog earring pages of a novel, this is pretty piece of artwork to give to any loved one. They do it in any name you want.

2. Embossing Stamp – There’s nothing worse, to a book lover, than someone who borrows our books and doesn’t return them. This is a nice way to be able to insure your books get back to you when you lend them out, or when someone tries to take them. And you don’t have to write in them.

Feature Friday with Josie Malone

I am happy to have author Josie Malone with me today.

Josie, can you tell us a little about your writing?

In my first western romance, A Man’s World, heroine Trace Burdette masqueraded as a man, fooling everyone but new neighbor, ruggedly handsome Zebadiah Prescott. With their love on the line, they had to deal with the past and the outlaw who killed her grandfather and stalked her. By the time that my third mainstream romance, A Woman’s Place begins, Trace and Zeb have been married for just over six months when renegades rob the bank she owns in the town of Junction City. A Woman’s Place told the story of Iraqi War veteran and homicide detective, Beth Chambers who time-traveled into 1888 Washington Territory where she not only encounters the hero, Marshal Rad Morgan, but Trace and Zebadiah.

Awesome! What about in your other series?

jm-theherospell3

Meanwhile, in the “Spell” series, we learn what happens in the contemporary world to Trace’s adopted children and their descendants. The Daddy Spell introduced us to Elinor Talbot who has two mischievous kids that cast a magic spell to find a new dad for them and a new husband for their mother. They return in The Hero Spell to locate a hero for their new pony farm manager. She is one and she deserves one!  The Hero Spell was an October 2013 e-book release from Siren BookStrand. It connects to my previous three books and the saga will continue in my next Josie Malone story.

What is your Latest Obsession?

The Blacklist on Monday night – I’ve always liked James Spader and this gives me something to watch until Once Upon A Time returns!

Who is your Secret Crush?

Hmmm, I haven’t had one of those in years. My first one was John Wayne in his early days – I loved him in Hondo and Stagecoach. Then, I was hooked on Clint Eastwood – he was sooo hot as Rowdy in Rawhide. No wonder I write westerns, gotta love those cowboys!

Shoes? Purses? or Jewelry?

Sorry, I’d trade them all for an afternoon at a bookstore – pretty much any bookstore, but Barnes and Noble are one of my faves, closely followed by Wits End in Marysville, WA. I have a huge trade credit there, but only because not every book is a keeper and I’m out of shelf space in my cabin.

Coffee? Tea? Hot chocolate? Or something else?

Coffee – there’s an espresso stand less than a hundred feet from my driveway and my Jeep knows the way. The morning barista also knows my Jeep and has my drink ready as soon as I pull up to the window. That and a pink cookie and I’m ready to go to work! I can drink coffee till midnight or two in the morning and it never keeps me awake.

What was your Best Vacation Ever?

Any writer’s conference, but especially the Emerald City Writers’ Conference in Bellevue, WA. I go every year and not just because I’m a member of Greater Seattle RWA – I always learn so much. I get to hang out with my writer friends and yippee, I don’t have to feed or water or muck thirty-one stalls for three whole days. By the time, I return to the family farm, I am ready to love and care for all the horses again, but I love that break in October!

The Hero Spell

Extraordinary pony farm manager Audra Dawson does it all, training ponies, teaching children to ride, and looking after the livestock. Her life will be fantastic when she weds the cowboy of her dreams, even if he now sees her as a sister and a woman more capable than most. Meanwhile her employer’s two mischievous kids are determined to find the “perfect” man for her and they cast The Hero Spell.

The Magic is back!

A legend in his own mind, veterinarian Joe Watkins knows his destiny when he sees Audra again. She needs him as much as he does her. He’ll capture her stubborn heart. Between Audra’s family who puts the “fun back in dysfunctional,” apparently random animal poisonings, and the trials and tribulations of the summer season on the pony farm, tensions increase with the summer heat. Will the magic last this time, or is it just a fling brought about by The Hero Spell?

JOSIE MALONE BIOGRAPHY:

SummerTime Job

As a child, I loved to dream away the days in an old cherry tree on my family’s pony farm. In my imagination, the tree became a beautiful Arabian stallion, a medieval castle and even a pirate ship. On rainy days, I headed for my fort in the hayloft. While the rain thudded on the cedar shingled roof, I read books, eventually trading Carolyn Keene for Georgette Heyer. I used the setting of the pony farm for my second romance from BookStrand. The Daddy Spell was a finalist in the Colorado RWA Award of Excellence contest.

Today I live on the family ranch in the Cascade foothills of Washington State in what was once a summer vacation cabin. It’s been modernized and even has indoor plumbing – woo-hoo!  I share the cabin with my two cats or maybe, they share it with me. I usually write at night after a long day on the ranch. Some days are longer and harder than others, but I still write from 8PM to 2AM, seven days a week. As a substitute school teacher, I love the school breaks but I’m just as busy, since there are 31 horses to look after, along with other assorted animals.

I’ve had a lot of adventures over the years – and I plan to write all about them. I hope you enjoy reading about them!

Vampires & Werewolves & Zombies

So, why did I choose that title?  Because that is what I like to read and what I like to write about.  I have currently got three finished novels that are in various drafts of being edited.  A zombie book and two completely different vampire books.  I also have two books that I am halfway finished with one inspired by Lewis Carrol and the other a fantasy book on angels and demons.

Aside from my adult fiction I have also written five children’s picture books that I am currently looking for an illustrator for so I can publish those as well.  My five children’s books were inspired by my four beautiful children.

Soon I will be putting the first chapters of my three finished books on my blog here, so stay tuned.
