Nightmare Before Christmas – Best Halloween Movie Ever!

Today is the day!! The one I look forward to all year long! Halloween!!! So Today I talk about my favorite movie of all time!

Okay, I know Nightmare Before Christmas is both a Christmas and a Halloween, but it is my favoritest movie! I love it! I have a dozen Jack hats, and even more Jack shirts. My favorite PJ’s are Jack and my favorite Mug is Jack and my favorite Pen, is Jack. Jack, Jack, Jack!

So, I think Nightmare Before Christmas was the first time the name Tim Burton really stuck in my mind. I saw the movie while in college and I loved it. I have always been drawn to dark and creepy things, and this movie embodied that for me. From the mostly black and white setting to the exaggerated features of every character, I loved it. And it didn’t hurt that it took Halloween and mixed it with the other holidays as well.

Danny Elfman’s music is haunting and beautiful and his singing is both soulful and sexy.  Jack’s ballad at the end is one of my favorite songs ever.

So for those of you who haven’t see Nightmare Before Christmas, do it! You can watch it for free on Netflix instant streaming, or you can get it here:

21 Days of Halloween Countdown Best Halloween Werewolf Movies

So a few years ago I started trying to figure out what my favorite Werewolf movie was and was sad and shocked to find, that there are very few werewolf movies I have actually liked!

Underworld, is my most favorite movie with werewolves, but other than that, as I went through the werewolf movies I have seen, there were very, very few that I would say I actually really liked.

A werewolf movie came out in 2014 called Wolves. I watched it for one reason and one reason alone. Jason Momoa. Lucas Till is in it and he is one of my least favorite actors but I said, for Jason, I will give this a shot. Don’t. It’s not worth it. Unless, you are going in just to see Jason Momoa as eye candy. Then it’s worth it. He is so evil it’s awesome. But the story sucked and the graphics made them look like giant fuzzy kittens.

In 2007 I was so anxious for the movie Blood & Chocolate to come out in theaters. I had seen the previews and was squealing with delight at finally having a great werewolf movie. It had Hugh Dancy and Olivier Martinez, both of whom I liked. Yet sadly, I was depressed with the outcome. The movie was a let down. Not a total letdown, but a moderately big one. So again, I will rank this on the list of werewolf movies out there, but don’t expect to come away feeling like you got an awesome werewolf movie.

In 2011 I waited with baited breath for Red Riding Hood to be released! Again! I was ecstatic for the movie to come out and couldn’t wait to see it. The visuals looked stunning, the story interesting. It had Gary Oldman for Pete’s sake!! And I like Amanda Seyfried. But again, I was let down. The holes in the story were enough to turn me off. Even though I wished so hard for the movie to be awesome. Some of the twists were good. Gary Oldman was totally evil. The love story was sweet and there was action, but it didn’t live up to the hype for me.

Sigh…

So when I went to find an awesome werewolf movie, there was only one that I could think of, that met my expectations. No, it is not the New Wolfman from 2010. As much as Anthony Hopkins has been one of my favorite actors since Silence of the Lambs, I refuse to even review that movie because it would hurt my soul to say something bad about him.

The one movie that I loved. The one movie that I thought was a great performance of werewolves in today’s society was, Wolf. Yes, the 1994 Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfieffer, James Spader movie. How could one ever forget Jack Nicholson marking his territory in the bathroom? Plus the special effects were very well done and quite believable. Though I do not write my werewolves to still be in human form when they wolf out. I think the movie did an awesome job of it. I don’t think they could have put together a better cast with a better script.

Another shout out I’m going to give is not a werewolf movie but a shifter movie. LadyHawke. Michelle Pfieffer and Rutger Hauer. It a beautiful love story set in a fantasy world about two cursed lovers. It is not horror nor is it really even a werewolf movie, but it is a shifter movie and a great one at that. Plus is has a young Matthew Brodrick in it.

So if you’re going to watch a Werewolf movie, I recommend Wolf or Underworld. There is nothing sexier than an Alph Male protecting his mate. And there’s nothing better than a werewolf movie with a real plot!

I am part of the Bewitching Desires Anthology and our lovely book of 12 Paranormal tales is on sale for the next 2 days for just .99!!!

WWAnthlogy6.11.2015

12 Paranormal Stories of Love, Hate, and Desire. Bewitching Desires, The Savannah Coven Anthology, is packed full of Witches, Warlocks, Werewolves, Ghosts, and even a Reaper. All based around the great holiday of Samhain – or, as mere humans call it, Halloween. The witches of the Savannah coven are all preparing themselves for their favorite holiday, but on the night when humans and spirits collide nothing ever goes as planned.

Journey with an angel across the country, with a reaper chasing a soul hiding in someone else’s body, to a haunted hotel, with a reluctant supreme witch who’d rather give her powers to someone else, not to mention eight other wild and intriguing encounters.

Twelve interwoven tales from best selling and up and coming authors will have you wishing Samhain came more than once a year…

My story is the first in the anthology:

Rose committed an unpardonable sin right before she died. As penance, she has been reaping souls for Lucifer for over twenty years. On Halloween night she finds herself in Podunk nowhere ushering souls back to hell when she runs into the mysteriously handsome Gabriel who’s not at all what he seems. After chasing him into a cornfield and battling an angel to get Gabriel’s soul, she leaves with more questions than answers.

Gabriel is an angel hiding out as a jumper. A soul that jumps from body to body to stay hidden on Earth. But when he finds himself mortally wounded there is only one person he can turn to for protection. The feisty and beautiful reaper who tried to kill him the year before.

With Gabriel recuperating in her bed, Rose is summoned by her boss to hell where he makes her a proposal. Find the jumper Gabriel and deliver his soul, and she will be set free. Fail and become Lucifer’s bride forever. It should be an easy choice. Problem is, Gabriel is the first person Rose has been able to touch without scaring to death in the last twenty years. And just his presence has begun to bring back hidden memories from her human life. In the end Rose will have to make the ultimate decision. Choosing Gabriel or choosing herself.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

Rose’s heartbeat pounded in her ears. She pulled the door open the same moment someone stepped out. She was propelled backward in a tangle of arms and legs, onto her bed.

“Whoa! Hey!” said Elijah, his face inches from hers. “I thought we were friends.” He stared at her Reaper blade. The weight of his hipbones on hers sent a thrill through her. His lean muscular body pressed her down into the plush comforter.

“Elijah!” She closed her eyes and sighed. “Freak. I called you but you didn’t answer. I had no idea what I’d find in there.”

“Sorry. I was cleaning up the mess I made. I didn’t mean to knock you down.” His gaze searched her face, his lips inches from hers.

Her brain fogged with desire, making it hard to think straight. “Um… there’s food.”

“Right. Sorry.” He stood, leaving her body too cool, solitary, and alone.

She sheathed her Reaper blade and closed her eyes. This was stupid. She shouldn’t even be helping him, let alone allowing him to lie all over her like a personal electric blanket. Lucifer wanted him. If she turned him in, she was free. No more reaping. No more torture. No more death.

“Which burger is mine?” he called.

“They’re both the same.” She sat up. Get answers and then turn him in. That’s what she had to do. He wasn’t supposed to be in that body anyway.

She joined him at the small table.

He’d already dug into his food.

She picked at hers.

“So you were attacked by three Reapers, huh?” Subtle.

He stopped chewing and looked up. He took a giant swig of soda and nodded. “I was just hanging out, minding my own business, and they popped up out of nowhere.”

“No Gabriella to help you out?”

His expression darkened. “Do you want me to go?”

“No, I want to know what the hell is going on. You were attacked by three Reapers. One of them is missing, yet you survived. How’s that possible?”

“He’s not missing.”

“What?”

“The Reaper, Timothy. He’s not missing, he’s moved on.”

“Moved on? What do you mean moved on? Reapers don’t move on without Lucifer’s permission and he never gives that permission.”

“They can move on but they have to choose to.”

She snorted. “If it was that easy, every Reaper would’ve moved on by now.”

“Really? After what you’ve done. The things you’ve been forced to do by your boss, would you really choose to move on right now? To face judgment?”

She swallowed. He was right. Her penance wasn’t yet complete for the unforgivable act she’d committed right before dying. She couldn’t remember what that act was, but she remembered how it felt.

“How do you know all this?” She swigged her soda.

“I’m an angel.”

Rose snorted and gulped her soda. “Yeah, you were an angel. Now you’re just a Jumper.”

Elijah sat down his burger and stood. He closed his eyes and looked as if he were praying. Slowly his entire body filled with light. The mortal body that housed him fell away and she saw him for who he truly was. She saw the soul within. He was amazing. A Greek god complete with eight packed abs, chiseled chest, and powerful, muscular thighs. His wheat colored wavy hair would have even made Fabio cringe in shame. He stared at her through bright aquamarine eyes.

“Wow. You’re seriously hot.” She clapped her hand over her mouth.

He chuckled and his light faded, but she could still see his true form.

She had so many questions for him. “How can I still see the real you?”

“Because I’m letting you.”

“And your body is…”

“Somewhere safe.”

“So what’s the deal? Why is everyone after you?”

He looked away. “I’ve… gone rogue.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean I don’t play by the rules anymore. I help those who need help. I don’t wait in hopes that another human will help. Humanity has fallen too far for that. But most of all, I don’t take orders.”

“And so you were what? Cast out?”

His eyes turned hard. “I left.”

She nodded. “Your Father must not be very happy.”

“Yes, our Father is not too happy. I have a few brothers and sisters, like Gabriella, who believe as I do. They try to help or protect me as much as possible, but they have their own problems right now.”

“So you’ve been living here, on Earth this entire last year?”

“Longer than that.” He sat down and bit into his hamburger.

“Doing what? How do you live? Eat? Where do you sleep?”

He shrugged. “I travel around the world helping people.”

“Quite the saint.” She swirled a fry in ketchup.

“And I spend a lot of time here in Savannah.”

Her heart thundered. “Here? Why?”

“For you.” His angelic gaze bore into her, making her insides turn to gelatin.

“Me?” she croaked.

He held out his hand and without thinking she slipped her palm onto his. Again his touch caused her body to tingle all the way down to her toes. The action so natural, it was like they’d done it a thousand times before.

“Because you’re special. You should never have been made a Reaper. You weren’t meant to be one. You should have been like me, an angel.”

She snorted. “An avenging angel maybe.”

“No.” He pulled her to her feet and stepped close. “I’ve watched you for the last year. Seen you with the witches and with other people. I see how it pains you to reap them. How you only want to go back to the way things were.”

His hand caressed her cheek and she focused on his plump lips.

“How can you touch me and not feel my Reaper’s curse?”

His body compressed into hers and his arousal pushed hard and long against the flat of her stomach.

“I don’t know,” he whispered. “How is it you can make me feel something besides apathy for the first time in a thousand years.”

Nightmare Before Christmas – Best Halloween Movie Ever!

Welcome To Halloween! Werewolf Movies

So I started trying to figure out what my favorite Werewolf movie is and was sad and shocked to report, that there are very few werewolf movies I have actually liked!

Underworld, is my first favorite movie with werewolves, but other than that, as I went through the werewolf movies I have seen, there were very, very few that I would say I actually really liked.

In 2007 I was so anxious for the movie Blood & Chocolate to come out in theaters. I had seen the previews and was squealing with delight at finally having a great werewolf movie. And sadly, I was depressed with the outcome. The movie was a let down. Not a total letdown, but a moderately big one.

In 2011 I waited with baited breath for Red Riding Hood to be released! Again! I was ecstatic for the movie to come out and couldn’t wait to see it. The visuals looked stunning, the story interesting. But again, I was let down. The holes in the story were enough to turn me off. Even though I wished so hard for the movie to be awesome.

So if you’re going to watch a Werewolf movie, I recommend Wolf or Underworld. There is nothing sexier than an Alph Male protecting his mate.

Hunky Alpha Wednesday with Veronica Blade!

Hey everyone! We are lucky enough to have my Feature Friday author Veronica Blade, back with us again for Hunky Alpha Wednesday! She just released her second book in her Shapes of Autumn series! Book One: My Wolf’s Bane became available in December 2013.

mwb-cover-web

It’s Hero Zack de Luca, witnesses a questionable scene, he unfairly pins the Autumn as stuck-up. He acts like he hates her, yet he keeps bailing her out of trouble. Not only is Zack both insufferable and irresistible, he seems to sniff her anytime he gets close.

Sounds like my kind of Alpha! I asked Zack a few questions and here’s what he said:

What is your favorite drink? Coke. It goes better with cheeseburgers.

Favorite Food? Meat of all kinds.

Best Date? Senior prom with Autumn. We slow-danced all night and we didn’t worry about werewolves or think about our future.

Worst Date? When my cousin and his girlfriend conned me into double dating with Autumn — before I got to know her. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, which bugged the hell out of me.

What do you notice first in a woman? With Autumn, it was her scent. There was something different about her, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.

What is your biggest pet peeve with women? When they insist on doing everything themselves, but I know they need help.

Use three words to describe yourself. Protective, astute, cautious.

If you could meet anyone who would it be? My father, but he’s dead. My second choice would be the leader of SWAAST (Shape-shifter Werewolf Alliance Against Tyranny)

What is one secret that you don’t want people to know about you? If I knew I could keep Autumn safe, I’d beg her to run away with me where no one would find us.

And since you are all DYING to know more. Here’s an Excerpt for you:

The smell of unwashed wolf closed in on me, fur tickling my skin and fetid breath in my face. I trembled, hot tears burning my eyes. The wolf snarled and I scrambled back as he leapt toward me.

“Autumn. Autumn, wake up.” Zack pulled me off the pillow by my shoulders.

I lifted my head and rubbed my eyes, trying to wipe away the mental fuzz. But I was aware enough to notice my comforter wasn’t anywhere near us, certainly not separating me from him. I must have kicked it off during my nightmare.

“Are you okay?” Zack was sitting directly in front of me, his thighs straddling mine, heat from his bare skin radiating through me.

I nodded.

He exhaled in relief and leaned back to sit on his heels. “Heard you scream and I ran up here.  Been calling your name over and over, but you wouldn’t wake up. Scared me for a minute there.”

I’d been having that same dream where I was being chased. “I was running from wolves.”

He brushed a finger down my cheek. “It was just a dream.”

“More like a nightmare,” I whispered, my gaze locking onto his. He wore nothing but a pair of boxers. As my ragged breath slowed, I realized the only other thing between us was my threadbare tank top and skimpy panties.

“Autumn.” His breathing quickened and he growled so low it sounded like a purr. Then he tilted my face to meet his and drew closer until I felt his breath on my skin. “You’re too beautiful.”

Book two in the Shapes of Autumn series, Wolves at the Door, released February 1st, 2014.

Their forbidden love could cost them their lives…

Autumn’s just learned she’s a shape-shifter — something her parents should’ve told her long ago. Unless they adopted her and didn’t know she wasn’t human. Either way, learning the truth has the same outcome: her parents lied. Zack is the only one she can count on, but he’s a werewolf and the king’s decree forbids contact between the species, let alone love. Zack’s planning to leave after graduation, but letting him go isn’t an option. He’s becoming more a part of her every day, a part she would fight for, give up everything for — even kill for. If she’s not killed first.

If Zack’s experience with his own kind has taught him anything, it’s that werewolves can’t be trusted. He’d rather die free than live in a pack under the rule of the werewolf king. So, instead of preparing for college like any other senior, he’s planning to go on the run after graduation. Escaping won’t be easy with the werewolves guarding him. But until that day comes, Zack knows he’s endangering Autumn every moment he’s around her. If it’s this difficult staying away from her now, how hard will it be to leave her behind in just a few weeks?
