Welcome back! This has been the most fun 21 Day Countdown ever!! Not only have we gotten to visit some awesome books, but also some goodies and decorations and movies as well! And today we are talking about Monster Movies. You know, the movies where they take more than one monster and compile them all together to bring a mash up of monsters into one big film. Yup! Today is Monster Mash Movie day!

Now there haven’t been a lot of these, and there haven’t been many good ones of these, but there are a few worth mentioning and watching, if for nothing else, for fun 🙂

Saturday the 14th – This is a goofy 80’s movie that you can only get on DVD from Amazon but if you like silly 80’s movies, this is one that you should check out. Now I’ll admit I’m a wuss. And as a kid I was even more so. So, even though I’ve watched the movie over 2 dozen times, it still scared me. But, hey, it’s a fun monster mash movie with the bag costumes and dialogue the 80’s produced. So it’s worth it.

Another great and goofy 80’s movie is Monster Squad. This movie too has fun with bad dialogue and campy horror but it’s a cult classic and worth a watch. I did hear they were doing a remake of it, that would be cool to see. So if you want another family friendly monster mash movie, check out Monster Squad.

Now if you’re looking for something a little darker and a bit more up to date – Meaning from the 90’s – There’s the movie Nightbreed. This movie was only scary because of the scarecrow. I do NOT do scarecrows or clowns! But this was one of the first paranormal type movies I ever saw and I was fascinated by it. There are all different kinds of strange paranormal creatures. Though the porcupine lady is one of my favorites.

So that brings us to the 2000’s and one movie I loved, and one I liked. Van Helsing is the one I liked. The movie had a few things that I thought were cool. I liked Frankenstein’s monster. And I thought the brides of Dracula were pretty wicked as well. The graphics on the werewolves were decent. And the twist at the end was great. I liked the fight scenes as well.

Next is one that I loved. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This movie didn’t do well in the theaters but I really enjoyed it. Much better than the graphic novel. This was the first real not goofy movie I’d ever seen that had fictional characters in it. Mina from Dracula, Dorian Gray, Dr. Jekkyl, Alan Quartermaine, Invisible man, Tom Sawyer, Captain Nemo. Plus, a total bonus was all the great Steampunk elements. I LOVED all of Nemo’s steampunk items. So cool!

So tell me? Do you like monster mash up movies? What’s been your favorite one? Or what would you like to see done?
