It’s Geek out Friday!

Okay, so we all know about the zombie apocalypse! You know, the one that people have been preparing for since The Walking Dead first aired? The one that incited people to rush out and build metal bunkers and stock up on guns and ammo and food supplies for when the undead came a calling! But what about the Vampire Apocalypse? Sound silly? Well then you haven’t heard of new release with Lyrical Press, Reign of the Vampires – The Society Book One.

I was approached by www.ManCrates.com and asked if I would write an article about what people might need in a Zombie Apocalypse and so I went to their site and saw the super cool stuff they already had for the man crates for that Apocalypse and I thought, what about when Vampires take over?

In my book Reign of the Vampires, a virus is unleashed by the Vampires meant to turn them into Daywalkers (Vampires that can walk in sunlight) but instead it either kills off, or mutates 90% of the human race into a subspecies of Vampires. The remaining humans are then captured as slaves, so they live in enclaves together.

In the first chapter of Reign of the Vampires, a group of humans go into a town to look for supplies. But what are they looking for? What would you look for if you had to go out and scrounge for supplies? What the heck would you even need if Vampires ruled the world? Well, I’m about to tell you.

10. Guns, Stakes, Machetes, Ammo, Crossbows and Arrows – Weapons! Who knows if holy water and crosses will work on these Vampires. They won’t work on the ones in my books, so to be on the safe side, get weapons. Lots of weapons, tons of weapons. Stash them on your body, in every room, under floor boards, in the ceiling! And especially the bathroom! You know how it goes in horror movies, and if the Vampire Apocalypse is the same as a horror movie, you will get stuck in a windowless bathroom unable to get out. Guns are a pretty good way to get you out alive.

9. Entertainment – Books, music, magazines, games, cards, anything to be able to use your time effectively. However, remember those are things that need to be done quietly and that will last you a long while.

8. A stash of First Aid Supplies and Medicine- First aid is going to be important. Let’s face it, you are going to run into Vampires, or they are going to run into you. And it isn’t going to be for a casual conversation. It’s gonna get bloody. So keep those first aid supplies stocked high! Along with the First Aid Supplies you also need meds. Cold meds, pain med, stomach meds, you name it. Humans are susceptible to all kinds of things, so medication is going to be needed in great supply. Especially after all those bite wounds from Vampires.

7. Toothbrushes and Hairbrushes – Yes! We need hygiene. No matter how gross things get, tooth brushes and hairbrushes are a MUST! Who wants nasty hair and breath when everything goes to crap? It’s the little things people.

6. RV – There is nothing you are going to need more than a working vehicle. An RV is perfect for it! Not only does it move, but it’s a house on wheels and you can pack it up high in the mountains where it would take Vampires a while to get to you and they would be deterred by sunlight.

5. Gas – You know that vehicle? It would suck if it stopped running about halfway to your destination because you run out of gas. Plus gas can be used as fuel for starting a fire, or for burning vampires. Gas is good.

4. Solar Flashlights and Panels – Solar powered is best. Batteries are something that run out, but solar lasts forever 🙂 You can use solar panels to run just about anything.

3. A Leatherman – What? You don’t know what a Leatherman is? It’s a Swiss Army Knife on steroids! It is a multi-tool that has just about anything you could ever need from a small saw to a can opener to a pair of scissors. Leathermans rock. Okay, get a dozen Leathermans just to be safe! Seriously! You need them!

2. Food and Water – Preferably no perishable food! Staples, things that keep. Rice, beans, dried food, flour, powder milk, noodles, crackers, twinkies. Okay, skip the twinkies, they’re terrible! But you need food and tons of it. You also need stuff you can pack into your RV and keep it stocked. And for water, get at least 10 fifty gallon drums. And a couple extra empty drums for collecting rain water. Believe me, rain water works great for flushing toilets with there is no more water.

1. The Number One thing you need in a Vampire Apocalypse is UV Lights! Everywhere! In your light fixtures. In your headlights. In your sensor operated flood lights. UV people! It saves lives!

So there it is! My list of things to go in a Man Crate from www.ManCrates.com with the Vampire Apocalypse hits! Now it’s true, most of this stuff wouldn’t fit, but a bunch of it would. What do you think of the list? What would you add to it the list if there were a Vampire Apocalypse?
