Feature Friday with Geralyn Corcillo

Today for our Feature Friday we have the wonderful GVR Corcillo and her award-winning romantic comedy, She Likes It Tough. Hi GVR!

GVR: Hi, Rebekah! Thanks for having me on your vibrant and exciting blog. I am thrilled to be featured so early in the summer, so that I can introduce my romantic comedy She Likes It Tough. It’s a fun, romantic, whirlwind adventure and it makes the perfect summer read. Buckle up and heck out this blurb and excerpt:

SheLikesItToughe-Cover-2

She Likes It Tough: Lisa Flyte needs a backbone. That freak fast-food accident with all its humiliation was the straw that really pissed off the camel. But how is daydreamer Lisa supposed to live out loud and make herself count after a lifetime of watching from the couch?  Jack Hawkins, that’s how. The adrenaline junkie from her MBA class needs a clueless urbanite to test his top-secret line of idiot-proof adventure gear. Perfect! Lisa figures that surviving daring jaunts with Jack will help her find the grit to pursue a career she really wants and the nerve to stand up to her bullying family.

They strike a deal: Lisa will become his undercover test dummy and Jack will help her get brave along the way. But in the wild, Lisa proves to be more spastic than brazen. Yes, she rips off Jack’s pants while she’s trying to rappel. But the mishap with the helicopter (it had no doors!!!) wasn’t her fault. Exactly. And in her defense, that creek looked way deeper than three feet. No worries, though. Jack can handle Lisa and her primal panic attacks. In fact, during and between escapades, Jack always seems to be there: cool, collected…and just a little bit critical of the bumbling Lisa.  Like the guy doesn’t have issues of his own. Maybe that’s why he and Lisa sometimes find themselves skating along the same erratic wavelength.

But when Lisa’s gusto lands her in a mortifying media maelstrom, she’s on her own. Jack’s part in the scandal knocks her world off-kilter, forcing Lisa to use every scrap of her new-found moxie to save herself.  Will the wild sparks of their love survive the challenges and fallout of everyday life gone outrageously awry? Only if Jack is strong enough to learn a thing or two about courage from Lisa.

Excerpt:

“Oh, God!” I shriek. “We’re crashing!”

“We are NOT crashing.”

“We’re not?”

“Damn it, Lisa! I knew you were all wrong for this.”

“All wrong? No, I’m not!” I stiffen my spine, sitting up as tall as I can. “I can do this. I AM doing this!”

Jack looks away. “I better just take you home.”

“No!”

“Yes. You said this was what you wanted, but clearly you don’t want to be here.”

“Yes I do! I can do this and I will.”

“Okay.” In a flash, he rips off his headphones and mine, snaps open his seatbelt and mine, and pulls me against him as he stands.

“Hey!”

Jack turns me around and wraps his arms just under my ribcage. I figure out what he’s doing just as the helicopter banks sharply.

Out we go, tumbling backwards through space.

“AAAAAAAAHHHH!”

Wow, seems like a fun book! Tell us about the awards She Likes It Tough has won.

GVR: This spring, She Likes It Tough won Best Humor Book 2013 and Best Indie Book 2103 from the Rebecca’s Reads Choice Awards. These awards pay tribute to authors who are self-published or have had their books published by a subsidy publisher, small press, university press, or independent book publisher. It’s quite an honor and very thrilling! She Likes It Tough is also a Quarter-Finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards.

Congratulations! What’s next for you?

GVR: This summer I’m working on my next romantic comedy, Queen of the Universe.

You sound busy. Ready to take a break and answer some questions just for fun?

GVR: Fire away!

What is your Latest Obsession?

The Calamity Jayne books by Kathleen Bacus. Recently a friend told me I might like them, since my writing style is similar to Bacus’s, and since my heroine Lisa Flyte reminded her of Calamity. Well, I read the first in the series, Calamity Jayne, and I am hooked! The books are funny, clever, fast-paced, and fun! I am now plowing though Calamity Jayne and Fowl Play at the Fair.

Who is your Secret Crush?

I have many crushes that are no secret, crushes I talk, blog, and write about all the time – Viggo Mortensen, Zac Efron, Owl City – but the secret crush I’ve kept quiet until now…Martin Freeman! I’ve been crushin’ on him since I first saw him as Tim in the original British series The Office and these days, I love watching him play Watson to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. Everyone makes such a big deal of Cumberbatch – and for sure he is amazingly talented and way good-looking – but I think Martin Freeman is just a bit more…mmmrrrh.

Shoes? Purses? or Jewelry?

Shoes! And always sneakers. Cybill Shepherd is a hero of mine.

Coffee? Tea? Hot chocolate? Or something else?

Coffee! My husband is a writer, too, so we have a pot brewing 24/7.

What was your Best Vacation Ever?

Las Vegas, November 2010. My main man Ron and I were taking a three day vacation after a very busy and stressful summer and fall, and Vegas was within easy driving distance. We were standing at the kitchen counter making sandwiches for the car trip when Ron said to me, “Want to get married while we’re there?” And we did! My DREAM wedding – just me and Ron and Pastor Jamie in a 2 minute ceremony – under a tree outside a small chapel that looked like it was right out of Little House on the Prairie. The bride looked angelic in her favorite jeans and T-shirt and the groom looked dashing in his black corduroys and blue button-down shirt. Sigh.

So, you’ve had some “adventures” in your own life! Thanks, GVR, for being with us today and telling us about your fun summer read, She Likes It Tough.

GVR: This has been so much fun, Rebekah. Thanks! And don’t forget to check out my review of your kick-butt action adventure, Red The Were Hunter!
