Hello everyone! I missed last week’s post because I have been overwhelmed by all the things going on in my life as a Mom as well as a writer! But I know you are all dying to hear what I have to say, so, here I am. LOL!
I know that a lot of people self publish without making their own Publishing Company. They feel no need to, they like to have their name as publisher, it’s a hassle, whatever the reason. It’s not for everyone! I get it! There is a ton that goes into making your own imprint.
Do you make it a DBA or an LLC or a Corp? Do you need a trademark? You need to find a name, a logo, build a website, blah, blah, blah! There’s a lot that goes into it. For me though, it was worth it.
Why? Because there are some people, reviewers, promo places, etc, that won’t take a book that looks self published. You need to have an imprint to get into them, and I wanted to be able to get in everywhere I could to get as much press as possible.
So where did I start? Well, I started with figuring out my name. It wasn’t easy. I write Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Fantasy Romance and I wanted something that encompassed that. So after going through a ton of names and finding out they were mostly taken, I settled on Fallen Angel Press.
From there I needed to build a logo and website, so I did that. You can see it here: www.FallenAngelPress.com
From there my husband set up a DBA under is corporation. And that’s how we started! The paperwork and branding and everything for starting your own Imprint may not be for everyone, but for me, I am super happy I did.
Next week, I’ll talk a but about Cover Art!
